Obviously infrastructure changes over the years (I have just posted a level crossing being moved three chains this weekend for example) and even some of the Society's charts still need updating, something I am getting on top of. As has been stated it doesn't matter what timing point you use as long as (using a member's maxim)you record a precise time at a precise point and I hope the charts help you to do this. Continue enjoying your timing. Ian Umpleby |

Sorry for the slight delay in responding Nigel but my fellow member has already done my job for me! Ian, Thanks for the response and to other members as well for their suggestions. The distance charts are a very useful resource as recently table 189 helped me calculate some average speeds in order to work out exactly which timing points I used on one run in the Bexhill area (that'll teach me not to write each point down at the time). I now need to consider what to do about Ivybridge (South Devon) as there's the old station at 235-08 (source Bradford & Barton book 8) as well as the new one at 234-26. For information I'm considering a trip to Plymouth next Saturday, it'll be my first time there since 1986. Recording both points is probably best so that I can do comparisons with old logs. Thanks again, Nigel. |
