Thanks to Sean for his summaries of today's runs. It seems that the Bi-mode world will be inferior to the HST world as predicted-sad. But at least GPS works for which we should be grateful and the ECML is electrified.

I am not sure I have read all the posts today but thanks to Sean for briefing me on the likely performance before i caught the 09.30 from BTM today. Just did BTM-Padd and back to BrP on the 11.45. I cannot say I was disappointed by the diesel because the maths did not give much chance of anything better. The electric departure from Padd was a bit better than I expected. I was disappointed that we seemed to lose 8mph or so on hte changeover from diesel to electric and vice versa. Perhaps it will be easier when drivers have more confidence it will actually happen! Just one thing that might not have been mentioned. The Hitachi reps (those who carried spanners) said all six diesel engines on hte two sets were working and each was set at 560kW x 1.34xxxx for horsepower of course. But at 250½ tonnes (stencilled) per 5 car set is only around 9hp/tonne. Seemed better up to 50 or so than hst, breaking even around 70/75 but lost out totally beyond that speed. 117mph unchecked Swindon-Didcot??!! John H

Have sent my runs from Mon and Tue to those RPS members for whom I have email addresses.

Further trip yesterday on 19.00 PAD BRI. Came into PAD with pans up but diesels started during layover.

PAD RDG 25 37, 118 held Burnham - Twyford. Unchecked except for appr control P8 RDG.

RDG DID 13 11 max 113.

DID SWI 19 36. Slight check leaving DID. Steventon 5 33 @ 70 then 112 max Marston East.

SWI CPM 13 09 max 121 Christian Malford. Despite 4.5 L from SWI lost further time in section.

CPM BTH 12 52. 84 at Corsham, 96 max Box. Again time dropped on section and over 5 min stop at BTH due to door issues.

So 10 late at BRI. Virtual HST ahead all the way and virtual Castle on the Bristolian was waiting for us when we arrived.

Its a nice train, but we need those wires.

Today another up run from BRI to PAD on the 09.30 and back to RDG on the 11.45 to SWA. 800 005/6 again.

BRI BTH 11 39. 98 max.

BTH CPM 11 20. 91 after Box, 84 out of the tunnel and 100 max.

CPM to SWI 17 52. 98 max after Dauntsey and 94 min on the bank (sounds familiar!) but then checked by the Bristol - Felixtowe Freightliner, which was looped on the up through at Swindon.

So 6.5L off Swindon produced a bit more urgency, SWI to DID 16 25 with 123 held from Ardington to Causeway LC.

DID to RDG 13 09 with 114 max after Pangbourne.

RDG to PAD 24 20 and only 1.5L arrival. So they can catch up time on admittedly slack schedules. Max 111 on diesel after Waltham but down to only 98 after Maidenhead Viaduct before the AC kicked in. Then 125 Dolphin Jn, brief check to 119 after Iver but recovered and still doing 125 at Hanwell.

Then sprint back to RDG in 23 08. Max 123 on AC before Slough and down to 114 on the changeover to diesel, which was sustained to Twyford West.

I have volunteered to do an article for the next Milepost so please get your logs to David Ashley.

The next milestones are the introduction of the first weekend diagrams this Sat 28 Oct and then Mon 13 November when further weekday diagrams are introduced, including the first public run to Taunton - well apart from the folk who got on one of the test trains at Yatton and were turfed off at Nailsea...(or was it the other way round?).

But the next significant milestone is the New Year when the OHLE Maidenhead - Didcot should be available to public trains, when diesel running east of Didcot will become a rarity. Catch 'em while you can.

Does anyone have logs of the 06.00 BRI - PAD and 07.00 PAD - BRI on Mon 16 Oct 2017?

These were of course the first public runs with IET.

I covered the 06.00 from BRI as far as SWI, then caught the 07.00 ex PAD back to BRI, but am missing the SWI - PAD and PAD - SWI sections for my Milepost article.

This evening's 19.00 PAD BRI arrived 2 early!!

Delayed by late Turbo. 3.5L away from RDG but got to DID 12m 42s. 110 max, slight check after Cholsey.

DID SWI 16m 35s. Max 113 Marston East.

SWI CPM 11m 50s. Max 122 after Christian Malford.

CPM BTH 11m 01s. 86 at Corsham, 101 max.

BTH BRI 10m 59s. Max 101 Keynshan.

One engine out on 800 005. Software fault apparently. But rest on max rating. Don't be surprised if seat coverings get changed.
