Journey time improvement Plan: Further initiatives are planned on the Dublin to Cork route with another year of ballast cleaning funded, an additional platform at Limerick Junction to be built and 7 level crossings to be closed, to deliver further journey time improvements.
National Development Plan 2018-2027: The National Development Plan 20182027, announced by the Government on 16th February identifies proposed investment over the coming decade for all infrastructure, including public transport. Of greatest relevance to Iarnród Éireann is: - €2 billion in DART Expansion, including electrification of lines to Drogheda,
Maynooth/M3 Parkway and Hazelhatch; fleet investment of up to 300 carriages; re-signalling and other capacity improvement works, - Feasibility study of high speed rail between Dublin and Belfast, and between Dublin and Cork, - Investment in existing network to achieve Steady State funding, - Completion of National Train Control Centre, - Review of feasibility of Navan rail line as part of the NTA Greater Dublin Area strategy review by end of 2021,
Review of Western Rail Corridor Athenry to Tuam/Claremorris feasibility to be undertaken immediately, - Improvement in rail stations including passenger information systems,
accessibility, park and ride, - Enhancements to Cork commuter rail including additional stations and rail fleet, - Improvement of road connectivity to Rosslare Europort.
