Following on from the Lickey thread Climbing the 1:45 from a standing start at Glasgow Queen Street with 365 537 MP1 = 52 mph MP 1 ˝ = 60 then a brake test to 49 mph, Presumably the 380s & 385s could be faster.

I think the bigger issue here is the line speed profile exiting Queen Street as far as Cowlairs which definitely holds the emus back once they have cleared the Tunnel - there’s well over a mile of 50/60 mph before line speed starts to rise east of the Cowlairs junctions. Never a problem with diesel traction but a distinct inhibition for emus, although cleverly the RBT seems to be done whilst still within the restricted area to minimise the effect on running.

Only when sampling class 380/385 today did I realise how many 80/90 mph limits there are on the E&G - the power of the emus is such that there’s a lot of easing/braking when you’re in a hurry making full use of the speed profile
