XC HST to Manchester 1st October - Posted: October 2, 2018 - 10:18 AM Quote and reply
The 07:00 Edinburgh-Exeter HST was terminated at BHM due to late running and had a run to Manchester and back before working back north to Neville Hill early evening by taking over from a Voyager on a Southampton-Leeds service.
Timed on 1V65 (17:05 Manchester-Birmingham New Street) between Stockport and Macclesfield. Benchmark Class 221 speed at MP 4 on the climb after Cheadle Hulme is 98 mph (88 with an engine out). Speed of the well-loaded 2+7 HST with power cars 43366+357 at MP 4 was 94 mph.
Enjoyed by driver, on-board staff, passengers and me!

wouldn't it be great if Cross Country could take on some redundant HSTs from LNER in due course? Sadly, the DfT appears to be totally uninterested.
