There is currently a sideways live stream showing on Dawlish Beach Cams. It's high tide and rough with the waves pounding in, and as I write enveloping a down IET; some spray is landing on the road behind the tracks. However the one approx. 25 yds long section of newly raised sea wall is deflecting the waves upwards with only the easterly wind blowing the peak of the spray onto the track. The adjacent "promenade" is getting a real dousing.
So, maybe there's hope for the Voyagers yet and, in fairness, the 1858 passage of the 1106 from Edinburgh went ahead.

Sorry, not really Ian. when the sea comes over the wall at the Boat Cove it does the same at the station and Rockstone bridge. My prediction is that the monstrosity under construction will not make one extra train run.

Whatever happened to thd MR claim (Mr Walmsley) that tests had solved the problem? I did say at the time that the test conducted could not possibly have covered the gamut of sea wall conditions. MR again swallowing TOC press releases whole? One more day in lockdown, one extra stage of cynicism reached.

You're completely right John as from what I saw last night, and before, unless the wall extends all the way from that nice little harbour to Dawlish Warren it would appear to be a complete waste of time and effort. From the Blenheim camera today I'm glad to see the walkway is being raised so that promenaders will still be able see the beach.
Who needs the coast anyway when the Costa del Stainbeck produces shorts only weather?
