Class 802 bimodes in early service operation with GWR - Posted: October 3, 2018 - 9:59 AM Quote and reply
On diesel power there is a noticeable step-up in performance compared to the Class 800s, with around 20% greater traction power at the rail - closer to HST standards but still requiring operation in electric mode to better them.
Detailed modelling suggests that there were a lot of engine issues in the early workings to Cornwall, with when operating with an engine out the 802s having very similar performance to 800s with all engines working.
On electric power the 802s appear to accelerate more rapidly than 800s and not to be constrained by DfT-specified IEP trainset acceleration limits - so Class 802 bimodes 'unrestricted' on electric as well as 'unmuzzled' on diesel?
