Programme on BBC Radio 4 last night concerning GPS.
All the GPS systems (USA, Japan, Russia and Europe) use the same radio frequency. You can buy GPS blockers but it is illegal to use them. It will block the frequency over an area depending on the strength of the blocker. Someone got fined $32,000 for using a blocker in New Jersey (cannot remember whether it disrupted flights or shipping). Shipping relies almost entirely on GPS for navigation with other systems as secondary i.e. visual navigation. Planes use them especially for automatic landings although usually as a secondary system. It is alleged that all GPS signals in South Korea were blocked by its neighbour - North Korea with a very strong blocker. The other use is for the "white van man" to block its GPS tracker so the boss doesn't know what "white van man" is doing but the danger here is that it blocks GPS signals over an area. The other main disruption to GPS signals is the sun which during high intensity of flares can disrupt GPS signals due to their weak strength.
