Pendolino sets new 182mph (293km/h) Polish rail speed record - Posted: December 3, 2013 - 1:15 AM Quote and reply
An Alsthom Pendolino trainset has set a new Polish rail speed record of 181.95 mph (293km/h) during tests on the Gora Wlodowska - Psary line north-west of Krakow.
Alstom claim it is the highest speed ever achieved by a Pendolino trainset.
The trainset is a fourth generation Pendolino - one of 20 ordered by Polish operator PKP Intercity - and bears close resemblance to the ETR600 and ETR610 trainsets currently operating in Italy and Switzerland. The trains are designed for a commercial operating top speed of 250km/h (155mph)and are expected to operate passenger services at the end of 2014 on services between Warsaw, Gdansk, Gdynia, Krakow, Katowice and Wroclaw.
The record comes less than a month after Alstom and Italian Railways celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Pendolino.
