Recently spent seven weeks doing a lot of recording. I have found a lot of Cross Country both 220s and especially 221s are running with one engine cut out.Is that company policy again as I seem to remember a few years ago this was policy but was stopped due to maintenance problems? |

16012FH said: Dear Andrew Just spotted this forum entry. David Stannard is the expert on this but I have been briefed by him for an RM article. Briefly...Class 221s have one engine turned off in rotation except during hot weather and leaf fall season. We await to see what will happen this winter. 220s have one engine out quite a lot-but not deliberately but perhaps say 25 per cent of the time over a monitoring period DS undertook. If a 221 loses a second engine the deliberately isolate one can be reactivated but only from a cabinet in the middle of the train. John Heaton |
