Interesting meeting with the ImechE at Leeds on the 68/88's.

DRS are very happy with them, the 68's can out perform 66's on freight. There is massive use of common parts, for example the alternator on the 88 diesel motor is the traction motor of a 68/88. The 88's can cover a job that 2 class 90's are needed for on a heavy freight over Shap and Beattock (although its does need a lot of sand on a wet day) and on average the freight locos do under 100,000 miles a year but the TPE 68's will do 200,000 plus and so new maintance regiemes will be needed.
