New Timetable in Yorkshire - Posted: November 20, 2019 - 12:11 AM Quote and reply
Just had a look on Real Time Trains at the new timetable in Yorkshire. In particular had a look at the new Northern Hull Halifax service and also TPE on the ECML.

The Northern service run Hull Brough Selby then turn into the Selby Halifax stopper but from Hull to Selby they are 1 minute slower than TPE. Some services are pathed for a 90mph 158/168/170/175 with a 17.5min Selby Brough section (70 mph ave) and others for a 150/155 at 75 mph in 18.5 min if you strip recovery time out. It does mean Hull has a xx.08 TPE to Leeds followed by an xx.15 NT which is not very useful however out of Leeds it is xx.34 TPE and xx.54 NT which is a bit more useful.

Turning to TPE the ECML services seem to be a mix of 185 and also 800 on diesel (yes diesel) with 17.5 min for York Northallerton and the Edinburgh trains have some 26 min bookings to Darlington. I thought the 800 on diesel might be a missprint but I then found a SB TPE 800 on electric timing with a 25.5min Darlington York timing inc 1 min recovery time. 24.5 min Darlington York is 108 mph!. It looks to me as if the power supply problems on the ECML have not been solved and a nuber of 800 xxx may be on diesels under the wires.

I think that you find that RTT is struggling to cope with change of traction (Diesel to electric & VV ) enroute on a particular service, according to Tom's blog he is hoping to sort this out before the the new timetable starts so he can say which is electric traction timing. The new Halifax to Hull service replaces the existing Leeds to Selby and Huddersfield to Bradford to Leeds service. There will be a Huddersfield to Bradford service. The Hull to Manchester Piccadilly is changing putting more reliability into the service with longer turnrounds at Piccadilly cutting out stops at Dewsbury & Mossley. BUT in the peak hours the Hull to Piccadilly service will stop at all stations Huddersfield to Stalybridge - in both Am & Pm peak hours there are 3 such trains in each direction in each peak. these are in addition to the existing Piccadilly to Huddersfield stoppers, providing two stoppers in each hour in the peaks. There will be NO Northern trains Piccadilly to Huddersfield.

It was stated a few Branch Line Society magazines ago that TPE 800s would use diesel power from Newcastle to Prestonpans. There's only one way to find out!
