Then the buffet attendant came down touting for business and his micro-buffet remained open to Edinburgh. The train fairly quiet but obviously there were people who had no seat reservations joining and sitting anywhere, and within 2 metres of others. At Edinburgh only toilets, Boots, WH Smith and Pret open together with Sainsbury’s, McDonalds, Greggs and Starbucks a few flights up off the Waverley steps. The 1808 return 5 car Voyager had a trolley at one end until Newcastle. Customers were asked to sit by the window and leave alternate rows empty, but since the maximum load in my coach was about 10 it hardly mattered. No seat reservations but limited number of Advance tickets are being sold to control numbers on XC. Yesterday’s Leeds area trips by Northern saw no control over Social Distancing although some small areas were taped off. At York only Costa (pfm 9), ATM coffee and WH Smith plus toilets were open**. An exit ticket check was in force by the Ticket Office exit but not the Scarboro’ bay exit. **The York Tap was also open in the afternoon. IU 12.08.20 |
