TPE Nova 1 at Manchester Piccadilly - Posted: August 7, 2021 - 7:51 AM Quote and reply
Passed through Manchester Piccadilly yesterday (6th August)and noticed a lot of TPE activity due to the diversion of services there because of the engineering upgrade work at Miles Platting.
No great surprise to see 802205 in Platform 3 of the main terminus waiting to work the 13:42 to Newcastle, but was unusual in that it had a pantograph up.
Had a word with the driver and no, he wasn't going to change over on the move before Guide Bridge, but having arrived in diesel mode at 13:14 he decided to provide hotel power during the layover from the overhead supply to avoid polluting the main train shed with fumes for getting on for half an hour (to make the point a 9 car Voyager pairing was in P4 with all of it's engines idling making conversation very difficult).
On my return two hours later, 802212 was in Platform 2 waiting to work the 15:42 to Newcastle, but with a shorter turnaround of 14 minutes the driver kept all three of its diesel engines running.
